First of all, Ken and DOK have just as much of a right and qualifications to criticize and review music as John - they just don't do it as often, either due to time constraints or lack of interest. Just because John has a website, that makes his opinion more valuable to you than theirs? Actually, Ken does do reviews for a legit website, so is that "qualified" enough for you?
Secondly, Trung was trying to encourage him to review your stuff, not discourage him. If it achieved the opposite effect, don't blame him for that.
And thirdly, we've been coming to this site and board for years. We know about John's rather staunch refusal to do requests of other people's stuff. So yeah, it was kind of a big deal that he said he'd consider reviewing it. Trung was hardly reacting like a crazy person, just doing some friendly ribbing with his initial post title.

: So I feel like I attempted to approach John in
: the kindest way possible. Honestly though, I
: am someone that works impossibly hard on
: what I do, and I am annoyed at the fact that
: everyone making a big deal about John
: reviewing some of my stuff for my personal
: reflection has caused him to change his
: mind. I appreciate the kind words that you
: guys gave me, but next time I do something
: like this I will contact a reviewer
: personally through email. You have no idea
: the amount of time and effort I put into my
: music (as I have waywayway more songs than I
: attempted to post recored as well as closing
: in on 600 pages of sheet music written), and
: I was truly looking forward to having an
: experienced person give it some thought and
: divulge on aspects of it. I know that
: everyone wants someone to review their
: stuff, but I am one of those people that
: actually wants to take deeply thought out
: opinions and analyze them, learn from them,
: and find ways to further implement new ideas
: into my songwriting. I had no idea that
: everyone would make a big deal out of this
: being done. John, I am sorry for causing
: such a ruckus. As I stated at first, my
: intention was never to bother anyone. I'm
: going to go search the internet and spend
: another few hours reading reviews to attempt
: to find yet another different opinion I
: respect.
:
: You do realize what you guys just did right?
: I'm sure John gets people asking him ALL the
: time to review their music. Very few of them
: probably realize that he would never want it
: on his site, and that he doesnt live and
: breathe on the internet. I worked to write
: those posts with THE REVIEWER in mind and
: attempted to put his needs first, and let
: him know that he would just be doing it out
: of the kindness of his heart with the
: understanding that I am ONLY alive for the
: sake of creating this music- and I feel
: nothing negative toward him that he decided
: not to do it. That's totally fine. But after
: all these people asking and him finally
: saying yes to someone- you guys had to step
: in and make a big deal out of it. Jeez. No
: more could this be a one time thing. No more
: could this be something that I could
: attain... because the silly rule that
: "if someone else got it, you duns gots
: to dos it for someone else too." That
: is not a good enough reason, as he works on
: this site for HIS joy of music, not OUR joy
: of music.
:
: Sorry for the rant, just thought I would
: chime in a bit. Hope I'm not coming off as
: an asshole, but you have to understand that
: I am slightly frustrated.

: 1. As you said, people would start sending
: me
: things en masse (I actually get asked by
: people to do it every couple of months,
: believe it or not) and I'd have to start
: sorting through what to look at and what not
: to.
:
: 2. I really really do not want to spend
: *more* time on my site than I currently do,
: nor will it be possible to do so.
:
: 3. I don't really like the idea of having
: the facade of being a wanna-be professional
: critic. I'm an amateur reviewer; an amateur
: who takes what he's doing seriously (because
: I can't help but try to do a good job in
: pretty much anything I care about doing),
: but an amateur nonetheless, and I like it
: that way.
:
: "Or maybe it's the idea of listening to
: music sent by me and he has some really
: negative perception of what it will sound
: like based on what I've written on this
: board. "
:
: I'm sure your music is fine.
