Thank you very much for that information. I am having some research done by the Univ. of Nebraska in Lincoln which contains an archive on the 42nd Inf. They have replied that they searched the rosters to two of the infantry regiments and did not find his name. They were going to continue to look. One more question: is this common? That is, not being able to find documented proof of military service?
