The St Louis records center, which is where I do my Army Reserve weekends, likes to use the excuse that everything burned up in the fire. While many records were destroyed, many still exist. Simply don't take their standard "burned up in the fire" excuse. I would go through a congressman or someone to get them and it is amazing what they can find then.
