The 84th Division roster lists Pfc. Charles H. Monson, Jr. of Salt Lake City, Utah as a member of Company I, 333rd Infantry. The listing notes only that he served during the Rhineland campaign which would indicate that he left the company, for whatever reason, before the division moved (on or about December 20, 1944) from the Siegfried Line in Germany to Belgium during the Ardennes Campaign (Battle of the Bulge). There is no PH (Purple Heart) symbol beside his name to indicate that he was wounded in action. That could be an omission due to error in the roster listing or he could have been a nonbattle casualty and not eligible for a Purple Heart.
