The 84th Division roster listsT/Sgt. James I. Smith of Gaffney, South Carolina as a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 335th Infantry. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal and served in all three of the division's campaigns (Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe).
