Just interested in corresponding with anyone who knew my father- Joe A. Smith with K Co. He was a communications sgt. for the company, having come in later in the training of the outfit via the "expired" ASTP program. He was wounded early on in the 84th's entry into the fight in Europe, along with Capt. Val. when their jeep hit a mine. He apparently did not return to the Division. To be honest I'm not sure what he did after that- until he was assigned to a post-war labor battalion in charge of POW's... He was promoted to Master Sgt. He met my mom about that time- she was/is French- and they married in 1946.
He passed away in 1994. Ironically, he was on a cruise ship- the "Norway" ( ironically the former ss "FRANCE" of all names).. the first time he had left the US mainland since the war- when he died. He had a unknown dissecting aneurysm that decided to blow out at that time- on board the ship.
