The 84th Division Roster notes that John A. Dugas of Arlington, Rhode Island) died of wounds on January 5, 1945 while serving with Company M, 3rd Battalion, 335th Infantry. At that time the 3rd Battalion was an element of an infantry-tank task force operating in the vicinity of Devantave, Belgium in the early phase of the January 1945 Allied counterattack in the Ardennes Campaign (Battle of the Bulge) which commenced on January 3. The battle for Devantave is described in detail in my memoir "Dear Captain, et al.: the Agonies and the Ecstasies of War and Memory."
