The 84th Division roster lists Pfc. Joseph Houbary of Paulsboro, New Jersey as a member of the Medical Detachment, 335th Infantry. He may have known David E. Bassert who was also a medic in the 335th who served mainly in Company K and was likewise honored with a Bronze Star Medal with three clusters. Bassert's story is told in my memoir, "Dear Captain, et al.: the Agonies and the Ecstasies of War and Memory," and his diary made a major contribution to that book. For more information and a photo of Medic Bassert click on the link below. When the site opens click on "The Men" in the box at lower left and scroll down.
