Posted by Allan Wilford Howerton on December 25, 2006, 4:23 pm, in reply to "william himburg" On December 25, 1944 the 334th Infantry was involved in extensive action, during the Battle of the Bulge, to halt the German drive at a line of villages northeast of Marche-en-femenne, Belgium, including Verdenne, Marenne, Manil, and Hampteau. Without knowing Lt. Himburg's company it is not possible to determine which one. As he was with the division during the Central Europe campaign he would have recovered from his wounds and returned to duty sometime before the end of hostilities on May 8, 1945.

The roster of officers for the 334th Infantry lists 2nd. Lt. William C. Himburg of Lansing, Michigan as having served in all three of the division's campaigns (Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe) and as the recipient of a Purple Heart Medal. The roster was compiled as of the end of hostilities and his promotion to 1st Lt. was probably during the 84th's service in the Army of Occupation. He would have been a platoon leader but the company with which he served is not indicated.
