APo 84" Your great uncle would have moved many times along the Siegfried Line, during the Ardennes campaign (Battle of the Bulge) in Belgium, and across central Germany to finish on the Elbe River, forty-five kilometers from Berlin at war's end on May 8, 1945. For details consult the division history, "The 84th Infantry Division in the Battle of Germany" by Lt. Theodore Draper (Viking Press, NY, 1946) which may be found in many libraries or through inter-library loan. Reprints and used copies are also available at various Internet booksellers.

The 84th Division roster lists Pfc Stephen Kosturick of Meadville, Pennsylvania as a member of Company M, 333rd Infantry. He served during all three of the division's campaigns (Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe). On November 15, 1944 the 333rd Infantry was deployed with the division along the Siegfried Line in the general vicinity of Geilenkirchen, Germany in preparation for an Allied offensive called Operation Clipper which commenced on November 18.
