Dear Helen, you can stop "wondering" - there is at least one of us left from the VPI era. I was at VPI from 1943 until they closed us down in spring 1944 and shipped us off to Camp Claiborne, LA. There I was assigned to Company K where I met my good friend, Allan Howerton - distinguished soldier and now author! After your marriage I wonder where you were living that you had to return when we were leaving VPI? I'm sorry to say that I don't recall ever meeting your husband but with a name like "Bob" he couldn't have been all bad!! :-) I guess that I will have to write to John Miller and ask what kind of info he has dug up about our VPI days. My roommate at VPI was Vernon Thomas who hailed from Johnson City, TN. He played on "our" Army football team when they played the game against the varsity VPI cadet team; do you recall that game? Jim Chenoweth from Dayton, OH was in the room next to ours and he was the bugler who woke all of us up every morning by "tooting his horn". In case you are inclined to write, my email address is lobo42@verizon.net Regards, Bob Carlson - K335, 84th Inf. Div.
