The 84th Division roster lists Pvt. Robert P. Moore of Morganton, North Carolina as a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 335th Infantry and confirms his date of death as 12.4.44. He was one of many casualties during the battle for Lindern, Germany, a Siegfried Line stronghold guarding the approach to the Roer River.. The 3rd Battalion of the 335th (Companies I, K, L, and M) captured the village on the morning of November 29 and held it against several persistent German counterattacks until relieved by other units during the night of December 2. The battalion was off the line briefly but returned to defensive positions in the vicinity during the evening of December 4. Moore is one of four Company I men whom the roster list as killed in action on this date. Their deaths were most likely due to German artillery which was persistently heavy in this sector during all this time. We are most appreciative of your adoption of Robert Moore's grave at Margraten.
