I am trying to locate any information about my Grandfather. He was in the 84th Railsplitters but I am having trouble finding his regiment or company.
I have a photograph of him standing on a German pill box. On the back of the photo he wrote;
Hello Dearest, this is a German pillbox we took on the SL, please don't worry. Love Al.
In a different ink color it looks like 1944 was written on the back of the photo but it is smudged.
By the time I was old enough to know my grandfather he was being ravaged by Parkinsons and was barely able to function.
He has since past away and all I have is his Purple Heart and some others.
I have some of his letters home but no mentions of his company or regiment. I have tried to request records from the National Archive but I guess there was a big fire at the records center so we are still waiting it's been 8 months since I put in the request.
If anyone knows anything about him or where I can find more info please contact me.
Johnson, Albert Herrell PVT
3rd Army, 84th Infantry Division
326th or 329th? Company Unknown
Thank you in advance
