Dear "Co. K" Officers,
My eldest brother died recently. His wife gave my younger brother and I a box of his books. Digging through the box we discovered, to our amazement, our grandfathers' scrapbook documenting his service during the war in the Service Co., 334th Regiment, 84th Division. Photos, letters, and other memorabilia are contained. Until this point we did not know the scrapbook existed. Most of the photos are postcards he purchased or otherwise obtained of the towns/cities they went through. These include actual German postcards, with German handwriting on the back. There are also personal photos he took of other men in his unit, and, most impacting, of a "killing field" in which the German units attempted to bury hundreds of bodies but were unable to do so due to the rapid advance of the Americans. He also included a personally written, open "letter to the editor", in which he described his feelings of the Germans based on interviews and the discovery of the killing field.
I am in the process of scanning these documents/photos, and am investigating possibilities concerning the best use and ways of preserving them. This might include the future possibility of donating some of them. Would your organization have use for them? If so, how would they be used? I would appreciate any information that might be of use along these lines.
I was very happy when I discovered your site. Thank you for helping to keep the memories alive and relevant!
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Nicholson
