His body was returned home and he is buried
at the cemetery at Backus Mn. My mother
told me she thought she he was killed by a rifle shot accidentally discharged by a fellow soldier.
I don,t know what that gets classified as. Not "in action" I guess. Never the less
he was in the service of his country when he lost his life far from home.
I appreciate the information you were able to give me. It helps me to understand that moment in time and to appreciate the sacrifices many families had to make. D.B.
