Thanks, Allan, for your efforts over the years. I attended and participated in the reunion held in Torrance, CA, some years ago and I thought it a very good idea. We also had a Southern California group as long as Dick Meehan wanted to keep it organized, so it was dropped when he moved some years ago.
If you will be speaking on this subject at the annual convention, I recommend to the Board that we pick a year to end the conventions and disband the Railsplitters organization. As time goes on, there will be fewer and fewer of our members with the health and interest to attend and keep things going. Anyone who was in the organization in Europe is now at least in their mid 70's, when infirmities begin to set in for real. I would suggest that we set a final reunion date for something like 2012, depending upon attendance in the meantime, but think of a closure. And choose an appropriate place to which to donate any remaining funds. For that, I would suggest something to do with the WWII memorial. Or perhaps, with other outfits we could arrange a memorial to those who were with us in the Bulge. I've already seen a small headstone memorial along the road near Dochamps, Belgium, marking the furthest advance of the Nazis in that battle. Our funds might provide for something similar.
Cordially,
