The 84th Division roster notes that Pfc. Andrew Varga (Company C, 335th Infantry) of Bridgeport, Connecticut served in all three of the division's campaigns (Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe) and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal. More than three hundred men, including replacements, served with the company during its six months of combat, forty-two were killed in action, and two hundred seven were wounded.
A variety of information about Company C-335 is available at the Suitland Maryland facility (Regimental after-action reports, monthly historical data reports, etc.) of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and at NARA's Federal Records Center (daily morning reports and individual soldier personnel files). About 80% of the personnel files were destroyed by a fire at the Center in 1973. However, you might want to check anyway in case Varga's records survived. Archivists at NARA can provide advice regarding these and other records depending upon the specifics of your interest and how far you want to take the research. For information click on the NARA site below.
