I am presently restoring the personal violin of my dad's brother...
SSGT. IRVIN JOSEPH ROGERS (ss#34516280) who was killed on
Sunday, December 25, 1944. In 1971 I visited
Irvin's grave at Henri-Chapelle in Liege Belgium.
(His) wife passed-on about 3 years ago, and until I find out who has her clippings/records/etc., I'm plodding on to find out as much as possible about (Irvin).
Irvin was a South Carolinian, but may have been living in Maryland at the time the 84th left for England and Europe.
Henri-chappelle lists (him) as:
H.Q., 335th Inf., 84th Div., GO #23 1945
Silver Star, Pur Heart
One of my favorite photos is Irvin holding (this) violin pictured with other musicians at a church meeting in his hometown of Sumter, South Carolina.
Sincerely,
Herbert R. Rogers
