A thirty year project has come to fruition!
"Witness to History- the WWII Photographs Taken by Maurice Miller" is a new book available to the public featuring Railsplitter photos. Many of these photos had been used by the 84th Division in the divisional history books, the Railplitter Paper, and in many periodicals, like YANK. Others were not needed during the War, and have never been seen publicly until now. Finally, the whole collection is in book form.
I have just published a unique book full of over 300 WWII photographs taken by my father, Maurice Miller (1920-2004) while serving in Europe during WWII. General AR Bolling, assigned Mr. Miller (form the 309th Combat Engineers HQ) to be the principle photographer to record history in the making. Miller was able to keep a dublicate set of photos, and now, after some 30 years of preservation effort, these photos are available in one amazing book. There is so much time, effort and money invested in this project, (starting in about 1980) it's staggering!
From generals to soldiers at the front, concentration camps, pows, Russians, from the air during aerial reconnaissance missions to look for tanks and enemy positions or to find bridges across rivers for division crossings, and numerous post-war events, Mr. Miller covered the war from a unique perspective. A story is told here, you might say a 'visual diary' of how Mr. Miller portrayed his experiences.
A pricey book to be sure, but one of a kind, and the only way to portray these photos. Otherwise, a nice photo book would cost an upfront fortune to produce. Fortunately, with modern technology, they can be produced one at a time, on command. And they are the real thing- a beautiful book.
A preview of the book can be seen at this website:
