The Company G, 333rd. Infantry section of the 84th Division roster lists Sgt. Lynn U. Ford of Humnoke, Arkansas as having served during all three of the division’s campaigns: Rhineland, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), and Central Europe. His promotion to S/Sgt probably occurred after the roster was compiled at the end of hostilities in Europe; i.e. during his service in the division’s participation in the Army of Occupation in Germany (May 1945-January 1946).
The G-333 roster does not contain a listing for a Cpl. Goodwin. The roster lists two soldiers with a first name of Melvin: S/Sgt. Melvin Brast of Overton, Texas (served only during the Rhineland campaign); and, Pfc. Melvin Graham of Rector, Arkansas (also served only during the Rhineland campaign).
The best source of general information about the 333rd. Infantry is the division history, “The 84th Infantry Division in the Battle of Germany” by Lt. Theodore Draper (Viking Press, NY: 1946). It is out of print but reprints and used copies may be found at various Internet booksellers. More detailed information may be found in monthly after-action reports for the 333rd. Infantry and a variety of other materials on file with 84th Division records at the Suitland, Maryland facility of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Day-to-day records of Company G-333 (Morning Reports) are on microfiche at NARA ‘s federal records administration facility at St. Louis, Missouri.
