Hi!
I´m the head of a historical research group from a village nearby Hannover.
Currently we are working on a chronic about the wartime in our region.
The place is called Lenthe and was captured on Apr 9th or 10th 1945.
Sadly more and more timewitnesses pass away, so we have to hurry... .
Can you help me to get some information about the things happened during this time over here?
Maybe someone can tell me the contact adress of a few veterans.
The NARA wasnt as helpfull as I expected.
There is more information about our neighbour village "Northen", which is mentioned in the G2 report ("The Northen pocket").
For us its important to have informations and reports from "both sides" (american and german witnesses) to tell about our local history as accurate as possible.
What I need:
Do any of the Veterans (334th, 335th) remember of our village?
Are there any photos taken in Lenthe or Northen?
Does anyone remember the Radar/Searchlight site between the two villages?
Are there Photos of this site?
(We excavated the generator building, which is the only one left)
How did the civillians act when troops arrived?
Something about the german troops based there?
By the way: The 89th inf div was fighting against the 101 Festungspak Ersatz u. Ausbildungskompanie over here (former navy soldiers).
Sometimes evidence of this fighting appear on the fields around (eg. Empty shells, several german helmets, two german dog tags and other stuff).
Mostely thrown away or left by the germans when they were pulling back or.
Ps: Sorry for my english, but school is quite a few days ago...
Best regards
Jan
