Other than Walter now using a wheelchair, they are both doing very well. Walter sounded great on the phone, was sharp as a tack and even cracked some witty, pleasant jokes. He has always been so complimentary to his faithful, and very caring wife, Jean.
We talked about everything, including art, for which Walter is noted for in his profession as an artist and a well-respected art teacher over the years. His illustrations were used for the 84th Div publications. He was with 334th Co H and Div HQ. And he is still painting occassionally today!
See some of his work on the Blurb website: "The WWII Art of Walter H. Chapman" a book I published in his honor and as a surpise for his 100th birthday two years ago. (Walter was a crony of my dad in WWII, so I had access to his work and tacit permission to engage such a project.)
So Walter extends a hearty "Hello" to the board and anyone else connected with the 84th Division.
Happy Holidays to you as well, and all the best in 2015, Allan!
This board is dedicated to the memory of CAPTAIN LEONARD REED CARPENTER, Company Commander, November 19, 1944 - March 27, 1945.
