From the Citation: ". . . When his company had been partially surrounded after seizing its objective and contact with friendly units had been lost, Staff Sergeant Hall, together with another soldier, voluntarily made his way through enemy lines over unfamiliar terrain in a blinding snow storm and successfully established contact with another company 3000 yards distant, returning with information which was highly important to the success of the operation. . . ."
