Hi, my name is Jessica and I am so grateful I have stumbled across this site. I've come up empty handed trying to search on ancestry.com. I hope that you can help me. I am trying to find more information for my husband. He was very close to his Great Grandfather. I am trying to surprise him with more information on him. The War is not something his Great Grandfather talked about, but he did pass down some of his badges, discharge papers, and things of that nature. It isn't a lot, but something to go on. He passed away more than 10 years ago. His name was William Russel Via. I know he was a staff sgt. His honorable discharge says he was a in the Co. K 335th infantry, 84th Infantry Division Railsplitters. He was from Memphis, TN, Shelby County. It says he enlisted in 1942 in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA. I believe he was born in 1921 & his Army Serial number is 34496838. I'm hoping to get a better understanding of what he did as a staff sgt. And the events he had to encounter, live, and survive through. Thank you so much. I would be forever grateful for any information at all that you could find.
