Regrettably, we have no information about the men from the 29th Infantry Regiment machine gun team. However, Rochefort was defended in a holding action by the Third Battalion, 335th Infantry, 84th Division and some related units under the command of Major Gordon A. Bahe. The holding action was to allow time for units manning the Meuse River Line to get in place to prevent the advancing German panzer columns from crossing the Meuse and heading toward Antwerp.
After significant battle action inside and around Rochefort, a withdrawal order was issued and Captain Leonard R. Carpenter, the commander of Company K, 335th Infantry, led the contingent out of Rochefort, eventually withdrawing to Givet, France on December 25.
The story of the battle of Rochefort from the point of view of Captain Carpenter is told in Chapter 12 of my memoir,"Dear Captain, et al.: the Agonies and the Ecstasies of War and Memory." http://www.amazon.com/Allan-Wilford-Howerton/e/B001HCV4VY/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1
