This means that he served in the 84th during the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns but not during the Ardennes campaign (Battle of the Bulge). He could have been wounded or a non-battle casualty in November/December 1944 during operations in the Siegfried Line and returned to duty during the drive from the Rhine to the Elbe River (April/early May 1945).
