Posted by Allan Wilford Howerton The division was transported to the U.K. on three different ships in two separate convoys. The division regrouped in the south of England in the general vicinity of Winchester from which it was transferred to the continent and combat in the Siegfried Line in November, 1944. The different convoys were due to a shipwreck at sea at the time the initial convoy was being formed outside New York Harbor. That story is told in my memoir "Dear Captain, et al.: the Agonies and the Ecstasies of War and Memory, a Memoir from World War II." Link: More on "Dear Captain, et al."

The 84th Division roster, compiled just after hostilities ceased and published in 1946, lists a Henry Tarver of Brookland, Texas as a member of Company B, 333rd Infantry. His rank was private first class. The listing notes that he participated in all three of the division’s campaigns—Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe—and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal.
