Abbitt" Here is the info about your grandfather's Silver Star award: Captain HARRY W ABBITT jr 01292244 (then First Lieutenant), Infantry, 335th Infantry, United States Army. For gallantry in action against the enemy in Germany 29 November 1944. When the adavance of his battalion on its objective had been checked by heavy artillery and machine gun fire, Captain Abbitt, together with another officer, under constant artillery, mortar and machine gun fire, crawled approximately 300 yards to make a successful reconnaissance for an aternate route to the objective. The initiative, courage and sound judgment displayed by Captain Abbitt were largely responsible for the attainment of the battalion objecitve with a minimum loss of men and reflect the highest credit upon himself and the military service of the United States. Entered military service from North Carolina. If you cannot find the original Silver Star certificate, I am able to make a reproduction almost as nice as the original. Please let me know if I can be of further help. John Miller (Son 335M)
