Per the 84th Division roster, Pfc. Wilkie M. King of Cane River, North Carolina was a member of Company E, 2nd. Battalion, 334th Infantry. The roster notes that he served in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns but not in the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge). There is no PH (Purple Heart) beside his name. This would seem to indicate that he may have been a non-battle-related casualty prior to the Bulge and returned to duty after it was over. Or, he may have been wounded and the PH omitted through error.
