About six months ago i started reading this board with the thought of sailing down to Boot Key and even after reading all the whiners and dreamers of the old days coming back i went for it . Personaly i found it to be the last place on the east coast to harbor all the scumbag boaters who have no pride in how their boat looks or themselfs. They hang under the tree everyday drinking the cheapest beer they can find and whin about all the big money that has taken over and seem to be amazed that they are being pushed out. There have always been those who feel better putting the blame for their lot in life on those who have done better in life. What i noticed is most of the complaints about the Nazis and all are by those who look like they would be trouble IE...those whos boat looks like floating junk and they themself look like they need a bath and a shave.Then theres the complaints about how exspensive the city marina is...thats a joke because its the cheapest deal on the east coast !!!!In the five months i spent there NO ONE boarded my boat or hasseled me in any way shape or form...and i found the city marina and the employees to be very nice...a thought for some of the whiners would be to take off... if their boat could move {which is doughtful}and head down to a third world country and try it there...they wouldnt last a week without all the things they are used to in the USA...another thought ...cancel the 40 bucks a month for the internet...stop buying the 12 pack daily ...and stop hanging around the walking wounded under the tree...take the money you save and buy a can of paint and try making your floating home look like something youd be proud of...o and some soap and a razer would work wonders ...then sit back and see if you get a little of the respect you think your intitled to{ cause you own A boat}...and maybe the Nazis you speak of will leave you alone... heres another news flash... if you get a ticket for no lights on your dink...buy a flashlight....if they hassel you for dumping sewerage in the harbor...buy a porta potti...if you seem to be targeted by those in charge....look in the mirror...and try to remember....what you project is what you get back....o ya .. Dockside...the worst service and food in the keys ....the waitstaff has not a clue what to do...the cook looks like a Manson relative ...and the general attitude is just not up to par...i heard about some new owners...they must be absentee owners...and the local color is just plain scarry...the posts about the locals supporting a place in the off season are funny...the locals i saw didnt look like they could support themselfs ...let alone a so called restaurant... but the Admirals of the ocean who do hang around and tell their stories of life on the water are amusing...kinda like grandpa who repeats the same old story over and over...they have fun talking about novice boaters because when they first got one they knew EVERYTHING and were EXPERTS...like the guy Bruce at the marina...could go on and on with his experience and knowledge of boats...then you hear his broke down on the way home ...shouldnt be suprised since it never left the wall in years !!!!!...and the self appointed Mayor of the harbor...who i heard others say he told them to leave the harbor in two days cause he didnt like them or the way their boat looked...then i took a dink ride past his...egos are funny things...and those who think because they own a boat ...they should have all these services for free are just simply living in the past...they never stepped up to the plate or brought anything to the party and will continue to wander around blaming everyone else...while all in all the keys are still great...and ya its sad to see all the development and the old days gone...this is a fact of life EVERYWHERE...you either get in the game or sit on the side lines...bottom line...the ones on this board who talk about they care about the keys and whats happened are just blowing smoke...it is obvious if you read between the lines ...they care about themselfs and appear to be looking for the past to reappear...and in the meantime its the sad old " O POOR ME I KEEP GETTING DUMPED ON AND I CANT FIGURE OUT WHY"...to all those who are trying to get in the game and make it a better place... good luck...you have your work cut out for ya..............
