As of today Nov 14, 2007 if you are disabled and have the paperwork to prove it, take it to the City Marina Dock Office. The city has agreeded that until the marina is ADA compliant the disable will not have to pay for dinghy dockage.
Contact the City Marina for more information.

Consultant gauges City Marina access for disabled

An accessibility consultant was on hand in Marathon Monday morning examining the City Marina for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Electronic level in hand, ADAAG Design and Code Consultant Eric Contreras spent most of the day poking and prodding at several entry and exit points of the city's dockage for both larger boats and dinghies. While most of the data will be studied along with the construction plans for the new bathhouse, Contreras said that there was one fix the City could make quickly.
"They can just fix that ramp and that will give them a good access point," Contreras said of a wheelchair ramp that needed to be lengthened to reduce the angle. "Most of the other stuff is in the bathhouse, but when they build a new one that will take care of itself."
Boot Key Harbor live aboard boat resident Jim Lowry has been at the forefront of bringing issues with the ADA act to the city's attention. Lowry was involved during the marina's planning stages more than seven years ago.
"This place has done a 180 since 2000," Lowry said.
Deputy City Manager C.J. Geotis said the quick fixes, such as the wheelchair ramp, will not be a problem. The ADA study comes at a crucial point for the City Marina. Geotis said he is just a few weeks away from bringing the City Council a contract to build the new bath house. The City's planning staff is also looking into the feasibility of adding additional dockage at the marina facility.
