The odor from our holding tank vent was getting pretty bad and the cost of a commercial vent line filter stank as well; $80+ and $65+ replacement elements. I found a simple, effective, and cheap soloution. Taking a length of 1.5" PVC and adding end caps with 5/8" nipples, I put a small wad of polyesther aquarium filter material on either end and about 12 ounces of activated charcoal in the middle. I simply put the filter in line and the odor is GONE! The entire cost was less than $20. I used 24" of PVC but I think half that length would work. I also left one end cap unglued so as to be able to change the charcoal. Both the charcoal and filter material are available from the local pet store and the rest came from Home Depot
