We use seawater to flush and, like I said, it works great

: The odor from our holding tank vent was
: getting pretty bad and the cost of a
: commercial vent line filter stank as well;
: $80+ and $65+ replacement elements. I found
: a simple, effective, and cheap soloution.
: Taking a length of 1.5" PVC and adding
: end caps with 5/8" nipples, I put a
: small wad of polyesther aquarium filter
: material on either end and about 12 ounces
: of activated charcoal in the middle. I
: simply put the filter in line and the odor
: is GONE! The entire cost was less than $20.
: I used 24" of PVC but I think half that
: length would work. I also left one end cap
: unglued so as to be able to change the
: charcoal. Both the charcoal and filter
: material are available from the local pet
: store and the rest came from Home Depot
