yes Carson that is why we choose the boat life so that we are not stuck in one place...the word is "crusier" if you don't like your job, people, area, move on...no one is stuck when you live on a boat...if it does not run then you honker down and get it running...then leave...there is so many nice places and people out there..and we are very lucky to be able to do that...make the jump...

: Thank you simpletom, thats the kind of honest
: input that is most helpful. I sure dont care
: for over zealous L.E. and the Regs. that
: fuel that viscous machine. Nor do i have
: much respect for the modern commie. but im
: afraid that all these things may not be
: avoidable much longer. This syndrome has
: already taken over the land. The Water is
: sure to follow.
: Im not dead set on the Keys, and i have
: certainly thought about other places. But
: inspite of all the BS, i will not be
: discouraged.
: Thank you again.

: Nice Website... Sure Boot Key harbor and
: the
: Keys are beautiful but you should know my
: friend - its full of commies and loaded with
: laws, rules, and regulation. The only people
: that live there are anxiety ridden rich
: people. I would suggest you look to places
: around Fort Myers and or Punta Gorda area in
: SW FLorida. Now, these are places you can
: still buy a cheap sailboat for around a
: grand, can still throw an anchor and not be
: bothered for weeks on end. In Ft Myers you
: can dinghy ashore and leave your dinghy FREE
: right with all the shrimp trawlers near the
: landing for FREE and usually find a few
: friendly fisherman / woman around drinking a
: beer or two and BS'ing.. In Punta Gorda,
: they have a small shrimp fleet - show up at
: 6AM durung shrimp season and your out and
: off to work as a greenhorn - GOOD LUCK

: Thank you for your input. I think my main
: objective is to get out of the 8-5 struggle
: that pays the bills and little else. If i
: can get rid of rent, i think i may be able
: to live cheap. material items of luxury
: are of no concern, if i can wake up in
: paradise each morning and only have to work
: part time, either doing odd jobs, like 12v
: electrical repair, or anything else, maybe
: sell a lobster or two to people un willing
: or able to catch their own. That last idea
: is kind of a joke. but in general i have
: this gut feeling that i can sustain a
: "simple" lifestyle with little
: work to do so. So in essence i think a low
: paying b.s. service job might be enough.
: I am really thankful for this website
: though,it has given me an idea of the area
: and a good means of talking with some people
: in the know. hopefully i can find the means
: or courage to make this happen.

: While it's theoretically possible to live
: free on the hook with no payments to anyone,
: in practice those days are gone, unless you
: take off cruising for remote destinations.
: Choices are 1. slips, 2. Moorings, 3.
: anchorage. Even if you anchor you have to
: have a place to dinghy in and out of, have
: access (probably) to shoreside shower and
: laundry, and parking - so even if you anchor
: you still have to make payment arrangements
: for all of that. So you can live judiciously
: on a mooring or anchor, but not for free.
: (The people you pay your fees to by the way
: pay the local taxes on the property to cover
: services, if that question ever comes up
: academically). Service jobs such as waiters
: and the like are of course very low paying
: and that is a big problem in the keys. But
: it is do-able and can be a very rewarding
: lifestyle if you get into it. The boating
: community pretty much watch after each other
: and their is a pretty strong personal bond
: that makes life worth living. There are
: butt-heads in any click of course - boating
: or landside - but just deal with it. I'd
: encourage you to try this.

: Hello all! im 24 years old and looking to
: make
: a change. I wanna sail. Living aboard in the
: Keys seems like the ticket. Is it even
: plausible to live on a part time service
: job? like resturaunts/bar positions? can you
: live aboard you boat with out having to pay
: a slip or mooring fee? Any input would be
: much appreciated.
