life changes..how did you end up in a live aboard?

I have been enjoying your message board for a year now. I live in Iowa...not alot of ocean frontage here. Can someone tell me how they came to "live off the hook"? or is it on the Hook?? Are there many jobs available? How about sailing lessons? I have more questions ... Thanks...have a great day.
