No one has replied to this post yet about making the Keys into a National Park and while I am wondering why I will go ahead and try to get some opinions on this question which was posted almost 3weeks ago....afterall...if this is true then this is a big deal..however your opinion...personally my first reaction is that making the Keys into a National Park could be a good idea that will bring more environmental resources to bear on saving the reefs which were here first ...they should be protected to the utmost because the keys would just be just another good fishing spot in the southeast without clear water ad the incredible reefs...

: "When Monroe County officials go to
: Tallahassee Tuesday to report on how the
: county's doing on a state-mandated work
: plan, they're going to make a pitch -- for
: $1.2 billion.
:
: That's how much county officials say the
: Keys are on the hook for to buy private land
: deemed unbuildable under the islands' strict
: environmental rules. And because that
: financial burden obviously can't be borne by
: 75,000 residents, they want much of the
: Keys to be declared the nation's 59th
: national park . With that status, they say,
: would come money to buy the land..."
:
: Boaters, Liveaboards and the like need to be
: very concerned about this.
:
: Why you ask...
:
: Because you will have FAR MORE rules,
: regulations and restrictions than you can
: even think about. Just google National Park
: restrictions or rules.
:
: Before you can be for or against it, please
: take the time to know what they are getting
: you into.
