Don’t expect the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to deter the thefts, for as you have noticed, most of their boats have been pulled off the water.
Oh sure, the City of Marathon pays MCSO around 1 million dollars a year for SOMETHING… but if they can not be there to see it, they do very very little.
And the FWC is the same. When they do come through the harbor, if they see it (such as no anchor light) they do something… but as above, if they don’t see it, they do nothing.
The City of Marathon would rather spend 10, 20 even 50,000.00 to do a study on getting permitting for new slips at the marina, rather than protecting their customers.
The City of Marathon would better serve their customers by installing cameras and hiring night-time security to protect the boaters.
However, because the boaters DO NOT standup at each and every Marathon City Council Meeting (until it is done) demanding Security at the marina and the Harbor, IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
The marina and the harbor is a CASH COW to the City of Marathon. And the City of Marathon thinks as long as the boaters don’t stand before them, there is no problem.
If EVERY PERSON who uses chan. 68 in the morning would ALL standup at the Marathon City Council Meetings and DEMAND a change, IT would get done!
