The City of Marathon DOES care, they always have. Money is tight everywhere in this financially strapped Nation of ours. We're getting there, as I am an eternal optimist.
The plans are indeed in the works for security cameras. More effective lighting has been addressed, some in place now.
The adage "Patience is a virtue," is one to remember. In the meantime, we take added precautions. Such as: I have always reminded couples to not lock their two bikes together; instead separate them in different areas and lock each. Doing so may not save one bike, but it will just about guarantee you won't lose both.
It is not the people here among us who are perpetuating these crimes. It is, as with most crimes, outsider opportunists who know we all trust one another and are often lax with security.
So keep your backpacks with you at all times, don't place something down for a minute without knowing who is around you. Too, many an item has been taken from the "Free Table" that was actually not placed there for that purpose. The tables adjoin one another and people sitting there on their computers may sit something down and get up for a coke or whatever. Someone else comes along and it has often appeared that the item was on the "Free Table."
In most every case, the item was returned to its owner with a sincere apology upon learning of the incident.
Be cautious, be careful! We have to watch each others backs. That's just smart no matter where we are.
