: I think you're right in the fact that
: balancing all of issues that are important
: to various segments of the community is
: tough - for anyone, including Joanie.
: However the foundation for legitimate
: representation is respect for human dignity.
: Some may perceive Joanie as a bit eccentric,
: but I bet that few know that she has a
: Master's level education and thoughtfully
: analyzes issues, rather than just react to
: special interests, while listening to all
: sides. She starts with basic respect for
: others.
: When analyzing issues and trying to achieve
: balance for a community, one of the
: necessary tasks is to be able to perceive
: when any one special interest area or group
: is intensely pursuing their interest at the
: expense of other segments of the community.
: All of our actions are based upon self
: interest, and this is the way it should
: work. Community leaders and representatives
: though also have the job of balancing all of
: these self interests so that one segment of
: the community is not diminished for the
: benefit of another.
: There is nothing wrong with business and
: property owners, and those that currently
: have significant local power to be
: prosperous in their endeavors. As a
: community we should just keep a balance on
: what this might cost us in either community
: values or even economic impact on other
: segments.
: In this sense I trust that Joanie would
: truly respect everyone, without necessarily
: having to agree with everyone.
: I'd like to see her get elected, and see the
: effect that would have on the entire
: council. I think some might anticipate some
: antagonism from her, but I really don't
: think this will be the case - except in
: those instances when the council is saying
: one thing with their words but doing
: something else with their actions - which
: does happen from time to time. Otherwise I
: think she has the ability to bring some
: thoughtful analysis to community issues and
: honestly balance input from different
: segments of our community.
: Regards - Greg

: PLEASE help protect Boot Key Harbor and the
: City of Marathon!
:
: PLEASE tells your friends, tell everyone...
:
: Joan “Bicycle Joanie” Nelson
: announced this week she would
: be entering this November’s
: Marathon City Council race.
:
:
: PLEASE this time... Vote for Joanie. Vote
: to Protect the Harbor and the City. She has
: gotten close before. This time help it
: happen.
:
: Joanie WILL help control the wastful
: spending from years past. She STANDS UP for
: the people.
:
: Okay..but what does protecting the harbor
: and city really mean for the average
: law-abiding liveaboard person/couple/family
: versus the city dwellers and finally the
: rich landowner/business people...how will
: she respect everyone?
:
:
:
The real issue is, is Marathon a better place today than it was ten years ago? If your answer is NO then Joanie is your gal. She is a well educated down to earth person who would want to see Marathon remain the way it was or is without any more developers coming in and trying to turn it into something differant. We love the Keys and got forced out because of the greed. Hello to all we miss you!
