Oh my God I think i may be going through the same thing exactly. I had been seeing this man for about 6 months, he is bad for me and makes me quite unhappy with his 'ways'. Then a couple of weeks ago it came to a head an he intimated we were getting too close and we should cool down so I agreed but he wanted to speak to me a week later. So I called and by then I had decided I wanted a complete break and not to become his '#### buddy' if you know what I mean as I see that as demeaning. Anyway, he wouldn' let the whole idea of remaining friends go and to cut a very long story short I saw him today sort of by accident and again I tried to cut off the 'friendship' but he is very insistent and keeps saying things like he needs me in his life, he misses me, etc so lets stay friends but my reply is that I have high expectations from friends and he cant show me the committment of a true friend so why bother and then he gets all sorry and usually the conversation ends with 'if you're in town call me and we'll meet' well trouble is I love him but the only way to get over a lover is to cut it off, lovers do not make good friends. I miss him terribly and feel very lonely but i have to get on with my life and so do you. These men will never give us real love they have low self esteem and they are using us to make themselves feel good - they may love us even, but it's not without a massive price. You need someone special not someone that you cant rely on.
