That's a tough one, but I'd say that you should have stayed. No matter how much the person will convince you that they want you to go and have a good time, they are probably just saying this to see what your reaction will be and because they don't actually want to tell you that they don't want you to go- they want you to see it for yourself. However, that might just be my opinion. Some people might genuinely not mind it if they say they don't.
