Although there may be depth at the position this time, taking the very best one available in round one appeals to me more than taking Thomas. That said, my mind could change during free agency if the Lions pick up a real veteran talent on the end of their defensive line. Marinelli may have some solid "ins" with a few marquee FAs that have played in this T2 system that seems the fancy of NFL defensive coordinators these days. Rumors are fun. This is the offseason, LisaJo! The Lions are now in their most exciting phase of every year! Maybe one of the good rumors will bear fruit this time! Here's hoping...
... Joe Thomas may look good in a Lions unform, but I fear he will be another huge OL that can run block but is too slow to handle the speed rushers so many teams now have on the right side of their defenses. I shudder when I think of another Wisconsin lineman being drafted high by the Lions. Aaron Gibson still gives me pause to shudder. Robert Gallery was a "can't miss" tackle from Iowa who has struggled mightily, especially in pass blocking. Can Thomas handle speed effectively?
