A few other guys that I like are Joe Staley (who has problems with the bull rush), Arron Sears (who may be a bit more Aaron Gibson-esque), and Mike Otto (inconsistent, but shows ability...better at pass protection than the run, needs to get stronger.) Joe Staley is the only one I can see who could play LT at some point, but is a little bit of a project (with upside). I have absolutely no qualms that Marinelli will be able to determine if Thomas has the personality to play in the NFL. They've been looking at next guy down the rankings, Levi Brown, but he's a serious step down in talent IMO and not worth the top 20 picks. If Joe's too laid back or doesn't show on tape the ability that they want, he won't be taken. And I would never be unhappy to see a pass rusher come our way.
is a unique individual and is entirely different than Aaron Gibson. For one thing he is the most athletic OT to come out in quite a while. For a guy that carries over 300 pounds, he looks skinny. He's not a fat slob like Gibson. And he can move his feet and isn't just a speed bump. He's played TE, DT and OT up until his Senior year, when he finally was only a LT...which means that he still has upside as he refines his techniques. I will guarantee you that he no Aaron Gibson. I won't guarantee that he's Orlando Pace or Walter Jones, but he's better than Jeff Backus. If he had come out last year, some thought he had a higher upside than D'Brickashaw Ferguson. He can pull, slide, kick out, good feet and won't limit what the offense can do. At the point of attack he drives his man away by 10 yards. I don't think I've ever seen him get beat. I've seen him lose the ball carrier and thus let his man get leverage to slip around him, but only after the play had already broken down.
