I am pleased to read your evaluation and see that it is positive regarding the Lions and their draft selections. My initial feelings are not so positive. Opinions are certainly of a wide range from national observers, who have graded them from "A" all the way down to "D". That is quite remarkable in itself.
I thought they should have been aggressive in round one and moved up to take a DE or LB like others did. Instead, they took a lower rated (by many) OT while passing on two that were more highly regarded. I am suspicious of the second round choice being strong enough to play regularly.
Once the third round arrived, the Lions seemed to do much better, IMHO. That part of the draft looks good to these old eyes, but only if all three make the team and contribute. The team's track record in rounds 4-7 is woeful indeed!
While it would be great to see a successful draft for a change, one that helps the Lions finally turn their fortunes around, only time will tell. The defensive needs are still very great, especially at MLB and DE! A few drafts this decade have been graded fairly high only to see the players selected fail to make the team initially, get injured, or become busts very quickly. My hope is that you are right and I am very wrong!
