and as we all know, any draft pick can tank.
However, in round 1, Otah was not and is not the answer (I peg him for a bust). Also, most talking heads (if they bother to differentiate) will tell you that Cherilus was the second best tackle for the zone blocking scheme (aka Denver scheme). He is also regarded as the best true right tackle by many. (Lots of predraft stuff derided him for this LT play his senior year ignoring completely his great Rt play the 3 years prior). I also heard that Cherilus was going to be taken at 19 and 23 if he was on the board, so he was not a reach.
Dizon was considered undersized. I disagree, he is almost exactly the same size that Uhrlacher was when he entered the league. Also the same or nearly so as the MLB for Tampa during the superbowl year when that player entered the league. He is regarded highly as a MLB for the Tampa two defense... not so highly for other defenses. Mayo was the best for this option, but New England took that option away.
In two rounds the Lions got the best RT in the draft, the 2nd best MLB in the draft, for their schemes. That is not bad. They will both start. They will both play hard and to the whistle every play. There is a good chance that they will succeed but it is not a given. At least one isn't going to be the backup to someone else on the team and the other holding a clipboard. They will help contribute to the team immediately.
And truly, can they be worse then Foster and Lenon? (I suppose they could, but it wouldn't be easy ... to be worse that is).
