...this team takes advantage of early draft positions and loads up on stud defensive and offensive lineman! While there is some talent at WR and RB, how can a team take advantage of that talent when they cannot block or protect the QB? How can the DBs cover closely when the DL cannot stop the run and pressure the QB? The Loins are outmanned along the lines in nearly every single game of every single year. Our beloved team has passed on line talent for the entire Millen regime while attempting a quick fix.
Kitna is not the major problem here! If the Lions could block for the running and passing schemes and dominate the LOS, he would be good enough to lead them to the playoffs, IMHO. However, he is not good enough to make up for the line deficiences, like a Brady, Manning, or McNabb.
For some reason, the Loins and many of their fans all want to go after flashy talent instead of waiting until the lines have been fixed. Think of the guys in the trenches that could be in place here if WRs, QBs, and DBs had not been taken early. Ernie Simms is the only early pick I agree with currently from this regime. Those who evaluate talent in this organization need to be replaced - and soon!
