I turned it off in the 3rd quarter and watched the Philly Pittsburgh game. It is sad and frustrating and while Millen is in charge it seems endless.
When everyone was blaming Martz, I just couldn't see losing one of the brightest offensive minds in the NFL as a good thing. But, okay, the personalities clashed and the chemistry was off...so go out and get an offensive coordinator with some credentials. Colletto was deemed good enough and that is on Marinelli.
Kitna has a twisted knee and maybe we'll get to a tried and true Detroit QB controversy, yet. If Kitna cannot heal up over the bye, I would rather see what Stanton has than see Statue Orlovsky get hammered by the upcoming d-lines. At least they would know for sure what they need with their #4 overall pick.
Right now I see only 3 teams worse than the Lions. The question of whether the pre-season means anything has been definitively answered, "NO". Which we all knew, but I still hoped it could portend good things to come. It is hard to reconcile the difference between what we saw a month ago with what we have seen for the last three weeks. It's like watching a completely different team. Intensity, speed, and ability to tackle have all disappeared. It's mind numbing.
I hate to give up after only 3 games (and 5 years of Millen), but I see very little sign that the Lions are going to win more than 5 games, and possibly less if they continue to play the way they've been playing. My one hope is that the o-line gels midway and they start running over everyone.
Biggest needs at this moment look like 1. DT (cannot stop the run) 2. DE (cannot get to the QB) 3. MLB (see the above) 4. LT/RG (unless there is dramatic improvement with this scheme this needs the same overhaul that the secondary got last year) 5. CB (even with the overhaul these CBs look overmatched) 6. TE (Michael Gaines has shown me nothing, I miss Dan Campbell) and 7. QB (Kitna is damaged, like most Detroit QBs become eventually). And the special teams sucks too, so throw in a couple gunners, a kick returner and a punt returner onto the to-do list. But most of all get a PERSONNEL GUY to REPLACE MILLEN; one who can recognize talent and assess whether the price is right when signing FAs.
