I'm down with you running the team!! It's time for CHANGE!!!
I'm curious how this organizational structure is going to work. Millen had total control, but now it seems that responsibilities are split. Mayhew may be doing the player personnel thing, but with Lewand as President, does that mean that Lewand has the final say?? If so, we could have a Russ Thomas situation. If they run things by committee, then who knows how that'll work out. My main concern is who's gonna come in. As I was saying earlier when Millen was fired, it was imperative that Ford be looking at possible candidates and interviewing those that were available. I doubt very seriously if that even happened. He obviously just promoted from within to fill the role. The best we can hope for is a guy to come in as a director of scouting. And if that's the case, you can cross of the Cowhers, Parcells, and Paiolis who want to run the organization carte blanche. We'll have to hope that Mayhew and Lewand can work together to build something competitive and they bring in a guy that can get the scouting department right. That'll be a tall order. It'd be easier to find a competent GM and let him have the reigns like Millen had. But this makes too much sense for Ford to comprehend.
Still, Millen and Rod are gone. They were major problems. I did like the Roy Williams trade that Mayhew/Lewand orchestrated, and it seems like there was an emphasis on playing yougsters like Orlovsky, Cherilus, etc. so who knows. I don't think things can get much worse. We're already losing at historic proportions. I did agree with Rod's parting sentiments that the Lions stock will [eventually] be on the rise.
