Well that answers one of my questions. But IMO this means that we definitely won't be in the market for a Parcells or Paioli or even a Floyd Reese. None of these guys would want to work for Mayhew; they'd want total control. Perhaps that was why Tobin was shown the door after one year with Millen calling the shots. And I don't think it's a coincidence that Millen's 1st year was his best draft cuz he had Tobin by his side (not that Backus and Raola are worth anything, but at least they're on the roster).
I'm trying not to be my usual pessimistic and cynical self, but the Lions are making it really hard. Hopefully someone qualified will at least be hired to oversee scouting. Better information on college prospects and pro FAs would definitely help Mayhew make better decisions. That's the least we can hope for. If we go into next season with Mayhew and Lewand calling the shots, we'd better hope that they get a quality coach and make good personnel decisions, or we could be looking at many more dismal season ahead.
