Shanny is taking two weeks off (starting from Jan 2, I believe) before he starts talking to any teams. BUT, I heard (didn't really hear or read the comments) that he has NO INTEREST in the Detroit Lions. I cannot confirm or deny that rumor. But I believe it. I personally have 3 problems with Shanahan.
He is locked into his system and his system only, and he's not going to change his ways. He's not going to adjust his system to the players. He might tweak a few things during the game and is more inclined to play youngsters than we've seen lately, but he's still got "his system" that everyone must try to fit into. The Lions, based on Mayhew's comments, are to build a bigger, faster defense and run the ball. I don't see Shanahan fitting with what Mayhew has said that he wants to do.
Fundamentally, I'm opposed to Shanahan because he would want to draft a QB and then expect a three year honeymoon. I'm sorry. That isn't happening. The Lions need people to start coming back to the games to remain fiscally solvent, but before that happens they are going to have prove they can start winning. Lion fans, well at least this one, have little patience with a write-off year a rookie QB would entail.
And finally, Shanahan is a rat. He reminds me of Larry Brown. Very talented. Good system. Big ego. But I wouldn't trust him any further than I could carry him. You can't believe half of what he says, and the half you can believe is manipulative and self-serving.
